Kastoria

Kastoria city is the Lakeside Jewel of Northern Greece and part of the Macedonia region, home of Alexander the Great and his father, Philip. It is situated on a promontory on the western shore of Lake Orestiada, in a valley surrounded by limestone mountains.

Following the lake’s shore from South to North, you will explore the city and feel its beauty and tranquillity. The promenade of the lake, shaded by beech and plane trees and by the neighbouring forests, creates a mystical atmosphere and is home to 200 different species.

Some of the not-to-miss sites include The Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa, the old neighbourhood of Doltso, Dragon’s Cave, Profitis Ilias Church, and -of course- Dispilio,  a Neolithic wooden settlement.
